Visitors are truly spoilt for choice - there literally is something for everyone - all within a short walk or an easy drive.
Locally - the area is crossed by many footpaths that take you through acre upon acre of farmland and field where as well as seeing cattle and sheep there is wildlife in abundance, both fur and feather. A walk into Brailsford and you have a church, Post Office, craft shops and a golf course.
For the country lovers what could be better than the beautiful Peak District. More walks, hills and dales than you can shake a stick at. There are also cycle trails and places to hire cycles if you wish.
You will also be spoilt for choice when it comes to local towns and villages. Ashbourne - unlikely host to the Highland Games and Shrovetide Football, Buxton - famous of course for its water (Buxton mineral water really does come from Buxton) and the opera house, Bakewell - home of the famous pudding (you can even post-a-pudding) and many more besides. For the more adventurous Derby has a massive shopping centre and of course is home to "The Rams" at Pride Park stadium.
History lovers will appreciate the abundance of stately homes and historic properties in the area. To name just a few that are within 45 minutes drive - Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall, Tutbury Castle, Calke Abbey - all cry out for exploration and many have been used as film sets for period dramas - you may recognise some of them from TV.
Not forgetting of course, for the thrill seekers amongst you - Alton Towers. A mere half hour in the car can see you and the family to the gates of what is surely the nations' most famous theme park.
